Leadership void for Guides group

COHUNA Girl Guides looks certain to remain in recess after it failed to attract a second new leader for 2016.

Last year the community elected to sell the Belmont Street Guides hall unless the 83-year-old group re-formed this year and at least two new leaders are appointed.

The group has appointed a new female leader since but still requires a second leader to lead the district’s youth.

The town’s community group has been in recess since the start of 2015 after one of the leaders relocated out of the district, whilst a second leader decided to resign.

Gannawarra Guides District district manager, Carol Hall said Guides offers great opportunities for girls and young women to learn leadership skills, group co-operation, and community service, whilst developing their own independence.

Mrs Hall said energy will now be put into offering programs at the Kerang unit this year.

“The Gannawarra District Guide leader held a meeting last Monday when we planned camps and activities for the Kerang unit for the coming year,” she said.

“Any girls who would like to join Guides from surrounding towns of Cohuna, Boort and Koondrook are most welcome and encouraged to join.

“We have had no more responses from our campaign to find Guide leaders for Cohuna, so for the moment there will not be a unit there.”

Kerang Guides recommences on Monday, February 8. Anyone wanting to volunteer to become a Guide leader should contact Mrs Hall on 5456 3100.
