Calder defeat Murrabit

ROBERT SUTTERBY

MURRABIT hosted Calder United and sent the Lions into bat on a green wicket. The Blues bowled well, containing a strong lineup to 6/118 from their 20 overs.

Matt Webb was the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 18 off 3.

George Forrester carried the bat for Calder with an unbeaten 35.

Unfortunately for Murrabit, after a good starting partnership of 56 from openers Neil Teasdale (29) and Zeb Hein (35) the wheels came off with no other batsmen making double figures.

Angus Forrester had a destructive spell of three for 12, from three overs, including two maidens took the wind out of the sails and ensured a Calder United win.

Wandella headed up to Nyah and took the bat, Nyah took their wickets instead.

Pat Oliver (19) and Alec Copeland (12) were the only Bombers to see double digits as the experienced Nyah bowlers dismantled the Wandella attack.

In reply, Nyah made short work of the run chase, ending two for 71 lead by Ash Thompson on an unbeaten 49.

Barham-Koondrook travelled up to Lake Boga intent on capping off 2024 with a win, they bowled very well, keeping what has been a strong Boga batting line up to 5/112 from 20 overs. Josh Powley for 2 for 20 was the pick of the Raider bowlers.

Unfortunately the Barook boys ran out of time to chase down the total finishing 6 for 101. Young Riley d’Silva continues to impress adding an unbeaten 45 runs from 55 balls.

Kerang hosted Woorenin, the Tigers won the toss and went into bat, Jon Roberts again extremely economical with one wicket and eight runs from his four overs. The Tigers got away from Kerang in the middle overs, setting a very competitive 146 runs in their innings. Paul Johnson 46 n.o and Ali Shah 55, leading the charge.

Unfortunately for the Blues, the run rate just wasn’t there to compete with the Tigers, who also bowled and fielded extremely well in the heat. Scott Wishart with 26 was the top scorer. Bryce Darcy was the pick of the Woorenin Bowlers with three for 10.
