Choir needs voices for special performance

LOCAL music fans, singers and choirs are encouraged to sign up to join a unique music experience led by an ARIA-nominated performer.

As part of Mama Kin Spender’s Sound of Your Town visit to Kerang in August, residents are invited to share a residency and live performance experience rarely seen in the Gannawarra.

“It is exciting to have the likes of ARIA-nominated performer Mama Kin and producer Dingo Spender come to the Gannawarra to perform, but the addition of having choir master Virginia Bott work with local performers is a bonus,” Gannawarra Shire Council chief executive Tom O’Reilly said.

“Council and our Creative Gannawarra team are looking forward to hosting this performance, which was postponed in 2020 due the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Leading up to Mama Kin Spender’s performance at the Kerang Memorial Hall on Friday, August 19, choir members will spend six weeks prior to the event learning the arrangements and harmonies of three to six songs, which are then performed on the night with Mama Kin Spender.

“This unique experience will enable participants to work directly with touring artists, fostering a reciprocal relationship between the artists and the local community, while offering a direct opportunity for professional development,” Mr O’Reilly said.

Residents interested in joining this special choir group are encouraged to contact Claire Gillen on 0427 579 355 or Angela Ginnivan on 0409 252 550.
