Kerang aged-care residents enjoy the colour

GLENARM aged-care residents and visitors to the Kerang District Health facility are benefiting from the recent arrival of artwork from Gannawarra Shire Council’s art collection.

“It was noted recently in the Partnering with Consumers committee meeting that the Glenarm walls were a bit bare,” Kerang District Health chief executive Kellie Byron-Gray said.

“This led to a partnering opportunity with the Gannawarra Shire Council to showcase local artworks, much to the joy of our aged-care consumers.”

Five pieces from the council’s extensive collection were hung this month, with residents and visitors already commenting on the new additions.

“We plan to rotate artworks to keep consumers engaged and stimulated. We will ensure that our consumers participate in evaluating the artworks and providing valued feedback,” Ms Byron-Gray said.

The pieces were installed following the development of a memorandum of understanding between the council and Kerang District Health, enabling council-owned works to be viewed by the wider community.

“Council is pleased to support our local creative sector through the signing of this memorandum of understanding, which will enable the community to view these special works,” council chief executive Tom O’Reilly said.

“Our collection features works acquired through the popular Rotary Club of Kerang Easter Art Show, as well as other pieces acquired through donations and purchases.

“Council hopes Glenarm’s residents, staff and visitors get as much enjoyment out of viewing these works daily as what we do in expanding our support of the creative sector.”

The works on loan to Kerang District Health are Geckos (Esther Kirby, acrylic), Rehearsal Break (Orchestra) (Lorraine Lewitzka, water colour and pastel), Blue Cockatoo (Paul Oswin), Peace on the River (Rhonda Willoughby, water colour) and The Long Blow (Chris Harrison, colour).
