Music fans go a country mile

COUNTRY music fans have come from as far as regional South Australia to hear Sandie Dodd perform at Kerang Bowls Club.

The Victorian-based country and western star was brought to town thanks to the work of Bev Goggins and Loddon Star Music.

Ms Goggins said much of the 50-person audience had travelled to see the performance.

“There actually weren’t that many people from Kerang in attendance,” she said.

“But we got quite a few who travelled in just to see Sandie.

“We had a couple travel in from Port Augusta, just because they were fans of hers. We also had people travel in from Geelong, Melbourne and a big group from Pyramid Hill.”

Dodd’s performance was backed-up by musician Alastair McLean, who added to the country flair of the show.

With the help of a couple of friends, Dodd performed a variety of country hits, including a Dolly Parton tribute that Ms Goggins said the crowd adored.

“She did a Dolly Parton bit that was absolutely fabulous,” she said.

“The crowd didn’t get up and dance, they sat and listened intently to her music.

“A friend of Sandie’s, Justin Standley was a contestant on X-Factor a while back, and he came along. He jumped on stage to perform a duet with her.

“They performed the Grease hit, You’re the One That I Want, and it sounded fantastic.”

With crowds wowed, Ms Goggins was already looking ahead to Loddon Star Music’s next big-name performance on October 6.

“This October we have Graeme Hugo coming over to perform,” she said.

“He’s part of the Country Music Hands of Fame in Tamworth and has won every award under the sun in South Australia.

“They call him South Australia’s favourite son. He’s a brilliant singer.”

Ms Goggins said she was happy to help anyone interested in attending upcoming performances.

“We want to get as many people as possible to come along, even for those who may have a bit of difficulty getting down to the club,” she said.

“I’m more than happy to arrange transportation for anyone interested that are unable to drive down.

“We have a great raffle every performance as well, with the raffle ticket money paying for the venue hire. We gave away some beautiful plants as prizes this time.

“I’ve been to a lot of festivals over my time, and befriended a lot of the performers. They’re fantastic people.

“We don’t ever bring in second-rate musicians, we have top level performers come to town for the shows.”
