Groove on the Green is back

THE region is gearing up for the long-awaited return of Groove on the Green.

Following a three year hiatus due to COVID-19 and last year’s floods, the much-loved family event is set to make a comeback.

Organiser Jan Harry said it would feature five hours of non-stop music, with two different artists.

“It’s a relaxed, family fun afternoon with live music,” Ms Harry said.

“We’re looking forward to reviving it.”

Ms Harry said the event had evolved over the years, initially starting out as Jazz on the Green.

“We were happy with this event but have since made it more contemporary to appeal to a wider audience and offer a bit of everything in terms of music genres,” she said.

Organised by the Kerang Golf Bowls Club, the event is a major fundraiser.

“Money will go towards club house improvements,” Ms Harry said, noting committee members were hoping to undertake club house renovations in the near future.

The event was lucky enough to receive funding from the Gannawarra Shire Council Community Grants Program.

“This grant was a huge help,” Ms Harry said, noting this was the first year the event had secured funding.

“It means we have a head start on our fundraising efforts,” she said.

This year’s artists include local identity Elise Drake and Bendigo based The Quarry Hillbillies.

Elise’s music traces the edges of indie rock and alternative country.

It’s been a busy couple of years for Elise, following the release of her debut EP which was recorded remotely during COVID lockdowns and released in January 2022.

Supporting esteemed Australian artists, including Adam Harvey, Beccy Cole and Mama Kin Spender, Elise is familiar with the Kerang township, having grown up in Koondrook.

Her latest single ‘Another Town’ is an alternative-country bittersweet love letter to her hometown, exploring the challenges and confines of growing up in a small rural community.

Meanwhile, get ready for a toe-tapping afternoon of entertainment when The Quarry Hillbillies take to the stage.

From Bluegrass toe-tappers to country tear jerkers, their unique but diverse range of music will appeal to a wide audience.

Ms Harry said this year’s Groove on the Green promised to be a relaxing fun-filled evening for the whole family.

“This week is your last chance to secure tickets at early bird prices,” Ms Harry said.

“This is a family friendly event, so why not bring the family or a group of friends for a night that will not disappoint.”

The Kerang car club will also feature a display at the event.
