ENJOY larger-than-life musical acts in a small town when A little Piece of Italy comes to Cohuna this week.
Critically acclaimed classical Italian guitarist Massimo Scattolin and ARIA Award-nominated opera singer Sally-Anne Russell will serenade guests.
Supported by the Gannawarra Shire Flood Recovery Funding, the event will start at 7.30pm on Friday, 23 February at St Mary’s Church.
Organiser Lorraine Lamont said they were hoping that the attendance for the event picks back up after the event was cancelled for a couple of years due to COVID and the 2022 floods.
“We’re trying to put in a big effort to get a bigger crowd because we’re very lucky to be getting international entertainers here,” Ms Lamont said.
“We’ve had people from Bendigo, Echuca and Melbourne but I don’t think people realise that in such a small town, we’d have artists of that quality.”
Massimo Scattolin is a classical guitarist from Italy who has come to Cohuna for this event for several years.
He has been praised by critics and audiences in Italy and around the world for his “exquisite guitar and musical art”.
Aside from being a soloist, he has worked with orchestras, actors, theatres, and other known composers such as Morricone, Piazzolla, and Archer.
Mr Scattolin has performed all over Australia, with the Brunswick Beethoven Festival being one of his most recent gigs.
Accompanying him at the event is Australian opera singer Sally-Anne Russell who has performed across Australia, and all over Europe, America and Asia.
Ms Russell is is a mezzo-soprano who has been nominated for ARIA Awards in 2004 and 2005 for Best Classical Album.
Ms Lamont said that the artists love coming back to Cohuna every year to entertain the town.
“I just hope there’s a lot people who come to appreciate the quality of music that we’re presenting,” she said.
Tickets for the event are $35 and are available at Cohuna Neighbourhood House as well as online at: https://www.trybooking.com/CNMEL
Nibbles will be served at the lawn from 7.30pm.
