Big gallery for art show

THE Kerang Annual Easter Art Show presented by the Rotary Club of Kerang is expected to feature in excess of 400 works by more than 100 artists from right across Victoria.

Rotary Club President Karen Davey invites everyone with an interest in art and local entertainment to attend the Kerang Basketball Stadium over the Easter long weekend.

“The Rotary Club is again encouraged with the interest shown by artists from our local regions, throughout country Victoria and the metropolitan area,” Ms Davey said.

“For the last 20 years, the display has been of an extremely high standard of art and is a huge credit to the very talented artists and Rotary is merely providing the cultural experience for the public to view and the opportunity to make a purchase in a comfortable environment.

“In addition, there will be demonstrations, displays and sales from local artisans in many fields.

“We will also have on display at the gala opening night the Kerang Cup, which is the trophy awarded by the Kerang Turf Club at the Easter Saturday Races for the main race of the day.”

The Gala Opening Night is on Good Friday, March 29 from 7pm and will feature the Official Opening of the show by Rotary District 9780 District Governor Ian McKay and the announcement of the winner of the highly sought-after Shire of Gannawarra Art Acquisition Award by Mayor, Cr Ross Stanton.

A “Pro Hart” original painting will also be on display.

Running in conjunction with the art show is the annual art show raffle.

Art Show Coordinator Jenny Kelly said the current focus of Rotary’s fundraising efforts was providing funds for victims of domestic violence.

“At the moment they are taken to the caravan park or have to be taken out of town, which is not ideal for families,” Ms Kelly said.

“We feel, along with two Rotary Clubs in Swan Hill, that it is important that we have some safe housing in our area.

“The numbers are quite dramatic when you hear the number of victims affected by domestic violence every day.”

This year’s raffle prize is a painting donated by Bendigo artist Col Brown, who is a previous winner of the Gannawarra Shire acquisition award.
