Elias back to farm

ELIAS Lanyon fought a good fight but has been knocked out of television singing competition The Voice.

The Boort farmer competed last Sunday in the knockout round of the Channel 7 reality program.

Judge and mentor Kate Miller-Heidke praised Lanyon’s “growly, crunchy register”.

Prior to the performance, she revealed the song Lanyon would perform, Brothers by Matt Corby, before working on his composure under pressure because he came across as “stiff and wooden” on stage.

“I have to give the best performance I possibly can,” Lanyon said.

“I’ve got to get all the notes right and have stage presence to show how capable I am in front of the judges.

“Otherwise it could be my ticket home.”

Following his performance, the judges praised Lanyon’s “big risks” given it was “now time to do that”.

Miller-Hiedke said Lanyon had grown leaps and bounds.

“You are more confident vocally and we are thrilled where you are getting to,” she said.

“It’s an impossible choice … agonising”.

Lanyon was eventually knocked out by teammate Jaedyn Randell.

“Thank you for the experience and I’m excited to see what this can all turn into,” Lanyon said.

He will return home to the farm, but plans to continue performing at local gigs, pubs and events.
