Pyramid Hill Art Show opens Friday night

THE Pyramid Hill Art Show is returning for its third year, launching at 7pm Friday night with awards presentations, live music, food and drinks.

Bendigo artist Col Brown will feature as the guest on Saturday, with a live demonstration of his bush art.

Art show committee member Anne Grogan said they received a record number of entries, with 300 submissions largely from Pyramid Hill as well as Melbourne, Woorinen, and Deniliquen.

“People wouldn’t expect to find an art show here, but it has become quite popular among the locals and most of our submissions come from within an hour-and-a-half of Pyramid Hill,” she said.

“It’s not something we had ever thought about doing, but we’ve found it brings a different dimension to a small town and promotes it for tourists.

“We have people entering submissions who have never been here before and our local businesses are getting extra business while people come and drop off art and visit for the opening or for the exhibition during the week.”

The submissions will be judged by Bendigo art teacher Joy Tatt.

“Joy is an experienced art teacher, she’s taught in schools and tertiary education for many years and is now working independently as an artist and art teacher,” Mrs Grogan said.

“We’re looking forward to having her here.”

The show is open until Thursday, February 20.

Opening hours:

10am – 4pm Saturday – Tuesday.

10am – 8pm Wednesday,

10am – 3pm Thursday.
