Help solve murder mystery

AUDIENCES will help Golden Rivers Theatre Group solve a musical murder mystery at their production of Oh, Horrors! It’s Murder!, showing through early August.

Someone has murdered Egyptologist Professor Carlton at the museum, and Detective Morrow needs the aid of sharp-eyed witnesses to help him uncover the truth of the gruesome crime – was it an ancient curse released from an ancient Egyptian tomb or more human folly that felled the professor?

A departure from the group’s recent run of fairytale retellings, the production brings something different to audiences in the Faulkner Pavilion at Barham Recreation Reserve.

With the show’s debut drawing closer, director Rachael Warren said the cast and crew are eager to get on stage and perform, with the theatre group’s newer cast members encouraged to embrace their roles by their more experienced peers.

“It’s been a lot of work with a lot of time and effort, but the cast is developing their characters beautifully and we’re very excited to get on stage,” she said.

“We have a nice mix of brand-new members and some as young as about 14 joining our life members and those who have been with us for a long time.

“I think the experienced actors help the young ones to come out of their shell and act in a way they didn’t think they had in them, watching the bravery of others to put themselves out there.

“At this point when we’re near the end of rehearsals it can get very tiring, but we’re all here for that spark you get when you take the stage to perform.”

The production will debut with a matinee performance on Sunday, August 3, with three shows over each of the following two weekends.

Tickets are on sale now at Cohuna Betta, Barham Library and online at trybooking.com/events/landing/1402333.
