Talent makes dreams true

KIM Lister, founder and owner of Kimmy’s Cafe made her dream business a reality after a weekend drive.

Driving through Cohuna in 2021, Kim and her four children were checking out local real estate.

Kim was pondering what the local community needed, and her family, needed.

A hairdresser with a career extending over 32 years, Kim could feel the call of a new town, a new community, a new challenge.

Kimmy’s Cafe opened at 85B King George Street, Cohuna in June 2022.

Kim laughs as she remembers how busy that first weekend was.

“I was thinking, ‘oh, no, what have I got myself into’,” she said.

“We had locals and day-trippers stopping by.

“We were full all weekend.”

It was a gratifying start to her new life, an affirmation that she had made the right decision.

Kimmy’s Cafe is a friendly mix of delicious home baking, freshly brewed coffee, and a bubbly owner whose warm personality brings a smile to your face – and Kimmy’s Cafe to life.

With long-time friend Karlee by her side, Kimmy’s Cafe specialises in delicious home baked goods, from heart-warming pies, pasties, sausage rolls to frittatas. Karlee’s talents also shine with beautifully decorated cakes and slices.

Daily specials are listed on the board and these offerings depend on how Kim is feeling when she wakes up.

“I open my eyes and get creative,” she said.

“The daily specials board changes depending on the season, and what be sourced locally.”

The menu also includes gluten-free, vegetarian and dairy-free food.

With a regular clientele, and weekend travellers, Kimmy’s Cafe is a bubbling mix of friendship and great food.

Guests can eat inside or out in the alfresco area, while enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

With grab-and-go foods available daily in the fridge, it’s easy to pick up a quick lunch or dinner and keep going with a busy life.

Functions and groups bookings are welcome, so call Kim to discuss.

Fully immersed in her community, Kim volunteers and supports the local netball club, so the cafe is closed on Saturdays during winter, but open Monday to Friday 6.30am-5pm and Sundays 9am-2pm.

An early riser, Kim is in the cafe about 5.30am each morning.

“If the lights are on, and you can see through the window, come in for an early coffee,” she said.

Such is the beauty of a strong community. Where else could the locals grab a coffee before opening hours?

Great food, a warm environment and friendly service is what Kimmy’s Cafe is all about. Do yourself a favour and stop by soon.
