Spend up with Trader dollars

DO you have money sitting in your wallet that you didn’t realise you had in the form of a Kerang Trader card?

Kerang Traders Inc is prompting all residents to check the expiration dates on any cards they might be holding as they are valid for only three years from the purchase date and there are a number of cards that haven’t been used.

Having run for more than five years, the program has been a huge success for local retailers and is an important way to support local businesses in Kerang.

With business conditions becoming more difficult in small communities, the trader cards are a great way to keep these businesses alive.

Kerang Traders Inc spokesperson Rebecca Hewitt said it was important to check the expiry dates and balances of cards as the spending power on those cards was a great asset to local businesses.

“If people are not sure where to use the cards there is a pamphlet available listing all the retailers that are participating in the scheme,” Ms Hewitt said.

“Cards can have any amount loaded on them, from $10 up to $200, and can be used at potentially more than 30 businesses in town that accept the cards.

“Some of the bigger establishments around Kerang have been very supportive over the last few years by buying the Kerang gift cards for their gift-giving at Christmas time rather than buying gift cards that are for businesses that are out of town or the big companies.

“This is a way for the money to come back to our community and support businesses, our future and jobs and keep us open.”

In a bid to encourage people to use their cards, any cards that are used at a participating retailer before July 31 will go into a draw to win one of two $1000 Kerang gift card shopping sprees.

There is a website that supports the card program, and it’s possible to check the balance of a card online at https://cards4all.com.au/check-card-balance/
