Local gift cards give many times over

BUY local and support small business – that’s the message from Kerang Traders in the lead-up to Father’s Day.

It’s been almost a decade since Kerang Traders was launched, and in that time the concept has gone from strength to strength.

With more than 60 members, Kerang Traders aims to showcase local excellence, enhance community connection and foster collaboration and growth among local businesses.

Kerang Traders president Bec Hewitt said the group aims to empower, support and uplift the local business sector.

“We recognised the incredible wealth of talent, creativity, and entrepreneurship within Kerang, and we wanted to provide a stage for it all to shine,” she said, noting local businesses were at the heart of many small towns.

“At our core, we believe that a community thrives when its businesses thrive,” Ms Hewitt said.

“When our local enterprises succeed, they create jobs, opportunities, and a vibrant local economy. We’re here to champion these businesses, to unite them, and to show the world the power of a united Kerang.”

With Father’s Day just around the corner, Ms Hewitt said a Kerang Traders gift card was a perfect choice to “celebrate all father figures”.

The cards are redeemable for a three-year period and can be tailored to suit individual budgets.

“It’s the gift that keeps giving,” Ms Hewitt said, noting the cards could be used at any participating store or service provider.

The launch of the Kerang Traders gift card, as part of the town’s buy local campaign, has been well supported within the local community.

“We have had over $100,000 in Kerang gift cards purchased since launched,” she said.

Ms Hewitt said not only did the initiative encourage money to be re-injected into the local economy it also provided Kerang Traders with unique data and statistics, providing a snapshot into local shopping and spending habits.

Ms Hewitt said a thriving community was a joyful community and by shopping and supporting local businesses, this vision could become a reality.
