IT might be called The Reject Shop, but Kerang shoppers have embraced the new discount powerhouse.
The retailer opened its new store on Fitzroy Street on Thursday, with Gannawarra Shire Mayor Cr Garner Smith cutting the ribbon.
There was a queue of shoppers ready to hit the aisles, full of household bargains and goodies.
Trolley loads went through the checkout, saving many a trip to the Swan Hill store.
The Reject Shop regional manager Andrew Swallow said the opening had been a “great success and the locals loved the store”.
“Despite being a small country town, we had over 500 customers purchase products yesterday,” he said.
“We had plenty of customers comment on how thrilled they were to have their very own store and that they didn’t need to travel to other towns.”
The retailer will provide up to a dozen jobs to local community members and will offer significant savings to everyday Kerang shoppers with an extensive product range across big-name brands such as Cadbury, Tresemme, Pepsi, Omo, Finish, Scrub Daddy, and Schmackos.
Mr Swallow said that the new store would bring exciting opportunities for the local community.
“We’re really looking forward to helping the local community lower their weekly shopping bill,” he said.
“By making us their first stop before heading to other grocery stores, customers can expect significant savings across household essentials and seasonal products.
“We are proud to be creating more local job opportunities through full-time, part-time and casual positions.
“Our team is dedicated to helping the community find the best savings for their weekly shopping, especially during these challenging times of rising living costs.”
Established in 1981, The Reject Shop is Australia’s leading discount retailer with 380 stores across the country.
