OVER 400 works from 100 artists are expected to fill the Riverside Park stadium at the annual Rotary Club of Kerang Easter Art Show.
The show attracts artwork from across Victoria and beyond.
The show will open on the evening of Good Friday and continue on Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday.
Club president, Sid Hutchinson encouraged anyone with an interest in art and local entertainment to attend the stadium in Maxwell Street at some time over Easter.
Mr Hutchinson said that the gala opening night held on Good Friday evening, April 19, between 7pm and 10pm, is a night not to be missed, featuring the official opening by Rotary District 9780 District Governor Anthony Ohlsen, the announcement of the winner of the highly sought after Shire of Gannawarra Art Acquisition Award by the mayor, Cr Lorraine Learmonth, the announcement of judging results by judge, artist and tutor, Janet Hayes and the first opportunity to view and make a purchase with complimentary wine and light supper.
All is provided in the admission cost of $20 per person.
“Rotarians and our volunteer helpers would be thrilled to see a large crowd in attendance,” he said.
The art show continues on Easter Saturday, April 20, between 10am and 6pm and on Easter Sunday, April 21, between 10am and 3pm at a minimal general entry cost of $7.
“This is great value for everyone. Don’t miss this event as you will experience a wide range of quality art,” he said.
Mr Hutchinson said the Rotary Club is again encouraged with the interest shown by artists from our local regions, throughout country Victoria and the metropolitan area.
“As has been for the previous 16 years, the display of extremely high standard of art on display is a huge credit to the very talented artists and Rotary is merely providing the cultural experience for the general public to view and the opportunity to make a purchase in a comfortable environment,” he said.
The art show will again showcase our local area artists and their many talents that are becoming well known in our region. In addition, there will be demonstrations, displays and sales from local artisans in the fields of metal sculptures, unframed artworks, photography, needlecraft and more.”
Mr Hutchinson said the club was very pleased and appreciative with the level of sponsorship achieved this year, which has once again allowed Rotary to offer substantial prize money for category winners.
The Gannawarra Times is the show’s Gold level sponsor for 2019 and Silver level sponsors are A. G. Adams & Sons and 1332 3SH-MixxFM.
Broad support has come from the local business community.
Gannawarra Shire Council is again providing the Art Acquisition Award, continuing the tradition that has existed over many years in the building of the shire’s art collection. Mr Hutchinson said that the Rotary Club appreciates this continued support for the art show in encouraging an increasing high standard of entries in anticipation of winning this prestigious award.
With major prizes to the value of $5800, the club is confident of a very high standard of artwork being presented for exhibition and sale.
Last year’s Gannawarra Shire Acquisition Award recipient Sharon Pate has very generously donated a painting for the raffle prize and this is currently on display at the Bendigo Bank in Victoria Street, Kerang, with tickets available at $2.50 from Rotary street sales, local Rotarians and over Easter at the Riverside Park stadium.
