FOR more than 30 years the Tresco Masonic Lodge has worked towards educational scholarships within the Swan Hill area.
With an amalgamation of Tresco and Chisel Lodges, which did meet in Kerang, it was decided to enlarge the drawing area to include all the secondary schools from Swan Hill to Kerang, and including the Barham and Cohuna areas.
In conjunction with the Freemasons Foundation, it was decided to make available four scholarships of $5000 each. A total of $20,000.
Application forms were distributed to all schools during August, inviting applicants to apply as soon as students were informed of their ATAR results.
Kerang Technical High School student Allen Veloso was recipient of one such award which was presented on January 27.
Allen has had a rather remarkable year, being the recipient of a Queen’s Scout Badge, Lions sponsored community Award for 2021, a volunteer member of the CFA, and now the Masonic scholarship.
Other winners were Matthew Gardiner, from Swan Hill Secondary College, and Mena Keighran and Hannah Storer, both from St Mary MacKillop College.
