Shape decade-long plan

MURRAY River Council (MRC) residents have the chance to shape local opportunities, with consultation this week on the development of its new community strategic plan.

The 10-year plan outlines the long-term vision and goals of the community.

It also directs both short-term projects and a long-term program of works to be delivered by council.

Mayor Chris Bilkey said this was an exciting opportunity for the community to have their say on the types of services, projects and initiatives council delivered.

“It’s the community’s chance to shape what we do by letting us know what is important to them and highlight any local opportunities,” he said.

“There will be residents that have a clever solution to a local challenge or a creative idea to take the region to the next level.

“Whatever the thoughts, we want to hear them.”

For the upcoming stage of consultation, the community will have their chance to provide comment on the overall goals council was proposing and submit suggestions of projects or initiatives that might be delivered.

A series of local workshops are taking place across the council from February 6-12, where community members can drop-in and have their say.

Submissions of ideas or comments can also be made online via council’s Your Say platform.

“Our yearly program of works must link back to our community strategic plan, so the importance of community input cannot be overstated,” Cr Bilkey said.

“This is an opportunity to have input into local decision making and be active in shaping our future, so I’d encourage residents to pop along and see us at one of the workshops in the coming weeks.”

A session will be held at Barham on Thursday, 7pm-9pm, at the Barham Recreation Reserve pavilion.
