Urgent show of support

THE Kerang and District Agricultural Society is pleading for new blood to join its show committee to keep the iconic event alive.

The society’s annual general meeting on March 16 will call for new volunteers to stand.

Following two years of cancelled shows due to COVID-19, it will return in October, but not before public support is found.

Secretary Lorraine Morris said that members were needed to bring new ideas “to keep Kerang Show going for many more years”.

“Lack of interest can mean we are unable to produce this great entertainment for our community,” Ms Morris said.

“Each year we need a large number of approximately eighty helpers and we hope the community will give their support.

“Do you have an interest in a particular area? If so, you can be placed to help in that area with a present volunteer.

“If you are hesitant, we will provide a mentor to support you in a specific area and encourage you to become a permanent volunteer for this important local event.

“You may wish to become a steward in the one of the areas within the pavilion, on the arena or in any of the other areas. There will always be support available for you.”

Ms Morris said the Kerang Show had a great reputation and was well-supported by exhibitors and competitors, local, state wide and interstate.

“With this large exhibiting supporter base we urge you to support our show. Help keep the show alive,” she pleaded.

The Kerang and District Agricultural Society has been holding the annual show since 1883.

Any questions should be directed to Lorraine Morris on 0417 535 165.

The meeting will begin at 7.30pm at the show office in Park Road.

Supper will be provided.
