Bridging locals together for iconic event

FORMER Cohuna local Sarah Mulkearns and her husband, Aaron, laced up and hit the bitumen for the Cohuna Bridge to Bridge on Sunday.

The iconic event, which included cycling and running events, was held in on the picturesque Gunbower Island, raising much-needed funds for Cohuna District Hospital.

The Mulkearns joined other members of the Echuca Moama Cycling Club and Triathlon Club in the event.

Aaron won the overall men’s in the 50km cycle and Sarah claimed the overall female competitor in the same event.

“It meant a lot for us both to race as I grew up on a dairy farm at Cohuna and myself and four siblings all born in Cohuna,” Sarah said.

“Mum and dad (Steve and Debbie Grove) still live on the farm, now wagyu beef.

“My family and I recently moved back to the area (Echuca) from Melbourne with our two small children.

“I am a triathlon and cycling coach, and my husband is a fourth-generation family member of Tobin Brothers Funerals.

“We are loving sharing the country life and community with our children and all that that entails.”

Full wrap and pictures from the weekend’s event in next week’s issue of the Gannawarra Times.
