Lilly goes to great lengths to aid cancer fight

LEITCHVILLE resident Lilly Parsons has bravely undergone a massive transformation to help make a difference in the world.

The nine-year-old recently took part in The World’s Greatest Shave, raising much-needed funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Lilly’s fundraising campaign started at the beginning of the year when she decided to sign up for the cause.

Lilly said the death of her grandmother, who passed away from cancer, had inspired her to make a difference.

“I wanted to donate my hair so that it could be turned into a wig and help sick kids,” Lilly said.

With her determination and the support of her family, Lilly placed fundraising tins around town and pledged to have her lengthy locks cut in the hope of reaching her fundraising target of $1000.

While donations are still being finalised, Lilly has raised around $1500 so far.

She made the trip to Echuca over the March long weekend for the transformation, at High St Barber, who also donated $5 from each haircut on the day.

Lilly had 55cm cut from the length of her hair, enabling her to donate four ponytails, which will now go towards making a wig for a cancer patient.

“It takes 20 ponytails to make a wig,” Lilly said.

While she felt a little nervous on the day, Lilly said she was proud of her achievements and fundraising efforts which exceeded her expectations.

“It was scary,” Lilly said.

“My hair is really easy to brush now and I quite like it.”
