KERANG Neighbourhood House is leading the way when it comes to recycling.
The organisation plays a part in recycling a host of things from toothbrushes and bread tags to corks and blister packs.
It also takes part in the Lids 4 Kids initiative, recycling plastic lids into garden pots.
As part of Neighbourhood House Week, community members joined together for a lid sorting session.
Kerang Neighbourhood House manager Meg Stewart said at least 600 lids were donated to the organisation each week and these then had to be colour-coordinated prior to being sent to Geelong where they were recycled.
“We are aiming to spark curiosity and passion across the Mallee to provide place based, regional initiatives to reduce waste and look after our environment,” Ms Stewart said.
“Everyone doing a little bit can make a big impact.”
Ms Stewart said Lids 4 Kids had generated a lot of interest at a local level and lid sorting sessions would now be held monthly in order to keep up with the donations.
