MORE than 17 local not-for-profit community groups have been awarded grants for their work thanks to the Kerang Sports and Entertainment Venue.
A presentation held at the Kerang Sporties recently saw representatives of the various groups come together to be presented with their grants, ranging between $200 and $750.
Kerang Bowling Club and Sporties board secretary Gayle Teasdale said it’s a wonderful thing to be able to give the money to so many worthy causes.
“It’s humbling to be able to support the people who are supporting different organisations in the town,” Ms Teasdale said.
“Volunteers are so valuable these days, and some clubs are folding because they don’t have volunteers.
“So while we have got good people, we should support them.”
Kerang Sporties manager Mathew Chamberlain said it is through the community’s support of the Sports and Entertainment Venue that they are able to fund these grants.
“Hopefully [the organisations] will go from strength to strength in the different groups they are involved in,” Mr Chamberlain said.
“It’s pleasing for us to be able to do it.”
