IT was the opportunities in a beautiful location that initially drew Tony and Dieu Height to Kerang to take over and run the Kerang Holiday Park.
“We were looking around for the right town and the right park, and Kerang offered a lot of what we were looking for in that it is a really great little country town, it’s has great opportunity here and it is a growing town and a growing area,” Mr Height said.
“As far as the park is concerned, there is lots of opportunity here for us to take it to the next level and to upgrade facilities and really make it something that people will come to Kerang to visit and to stay.
“We want to make this park into a very friendly, family orientated place, while at the same time offer accommodation for the workers coming to town”
Moving to Kerang from Melbourne just a few weeks ago, Mrs Height said they found the natural landscape with the big skies and wide open spaces really appealing.
“The sunrise and sunset is what drew me to Kerang – you don’t see that in Melbourne, but here you can see the whole horizon in front of you,” Mrs Height said.
Formally known as Ibis Caravan Park, the Kerang Holiday Park has a variety of accommodation options and facilities, including family cabins, budget studio cabins ideal for workers, powered campsites, a pool, a children’s playground and a highly popular dog playground.
“Our goal is to build all of that, and particularly the tourism – there are great opportunities to bring people to Kerang for the amazing tourist attractions that are around here, some of which are not well known,” Mr Height said.
“Our role is to bring more people to Kerang for the betterment of the whole community and we also extend a very warm welcome to the whole Kerang community to come and visit our amazing park.”
Former owners Ross and Denise Richards, who are now setting up for retirement in Lakes Entrance, wished Mr and Mrs Height all the best with the park they have cared for over the past seven years.
“I just want to thank all of the Kerang community for their support over the past seven years, it has been sensational,” Mr Richards said.
“There is certainly a lot that I am going to miss about Kerang, and the people are the main thing that I will miss.
“I welcome Tony and Dieu to the caravan park to put their spin on things and wish them all the very best for the future, and I hope that the local businesses support them as much as they have supported us.”
