Tractors set to pull huge crowd

ALL eyes will be on Quambatook on Easter Saturday when the town plays host to the 45th Australian Tractor Pull Championships.

Expect plenty of high-octane intensity as the power-hungry modified tractors and trucks make their way down the track, pulling great weights, as the compete to be crowned champion.

Quambatook Tractor Pull Association publicity officer Doug Carroll said they were gearing up for another huge event, following record crowds last year.

“Last year was the biggest crowd we’ve had,” Mr Carroll said, noting he’s been involved with the event since the early 1990s.

“In the early 90s, I worked for a pair of farming brothers and they introduced me to it,” he said.

Growing up in Manangatang, he had previously attended the event as a spectator but is now part of the organising committee.

Describing the day as an “adrenalin rush”, Mr Carroll said the event attracted competitors from across Australia.

“Tractor-wise, we’re fielding a good number of tractors this year, with competitors coming from everywhere, including Western Australia, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales.”

With Quambatook home to Australia’s original permanent purpose-built tractor pulling complex, Mr Carroll said spectators would be treated to an action-packed day of nonstop entertainment, both on and off the track.

“A range of modified and vintage tractors will be on display, exerting their power down the track,” he said.

“The brute force of these modified tractors is a sight to be seen.”

The event will also feature a range of exhibitions and displays, with trucks, tractors and farming equipment showcased.

“There will be an extensive display of heritage machinery on display, thanks to the Quambatook Heritage Working Machinery Association,” Mr Carroll said, noting the event would feature something for the whole family, with market stalls and family friendly sideshow entertainment.

The Paul Bennet Airshow returns for an amazing display of aerial acrobatics.

The program will start at 1pm with the vintage tractors, while the spectacular modified tractors and trucks will hit the track around 3.30pm.

“The purpose-built Quambatook Tractor Pulling complex is renowned as a great track for competitors and spectators alike,” Mr Carroll said, adding there would be a designated “dry area” for families.

“The trackside fenced hills provide the safest viewing area, so bring along a rug or chair to enhance your enjoyment.”
