Country market a treat

A LARGE crowd enjoyed the bumper annual Easter Saturday Murrabit Country Market.

There were 90 stallholders spread across 150 sites.

The market’s Narelle O’Donoghue said this was a good number considering the usual April market was held a week earlier, as well as the number of other markets held on Easter Saturday.

“The crowd was strong all morning despite the threatening weather – there was only a very light shower of rain around 10.30am before the skies once again cleared and the sun shone brightly,” she said.

“Our community groups had an exceptional market selling ready to eat food.

“The local Recreation Reserve Committee ran the barbecue and sold 499 sausages, 190 steak sandwiches, 180 burgers, and used 25.5 kilograms of onions, 15 kilograms of coleslaw, and 76 loaves of bread.”

Murrabit Group School and Murrabit Netball Club ran morning tea in the Murrabit Public Hall and sold out by noon.

Ms O’Donoghue said the Murrabit and District Lions Club also did great trade all morning.

Live music was provided by Bendigo’s Kim Ritchie.

Bouncing stilt-walkers from Melbourne entertained the crowd with their antics as they demonstrated their land rescue skills.

The Easter Bunny was kept busy for two hours at the photo booth with plenty of young families and children lining up to snap a picture and enjoy an Easter treat.
