TRYING to keep up with the rapidly changing world of technology can sometimes be a challenge for older people.
So to help them keep up-to-date, the Gannawarra Library Service will host eight free webinar sessions this year. The Be Connected presentations are aimed at older Australians to educate them about e-safety and how to confidently navigate technology.
Gannawarra Shire Council libraries manager Mesh Thomson said participants will be watch live streamed webinars in an easy to understand format, while library team leader Tami Leggett will be on hand to answer any questions.
“We are living in an ever-changing digital world, and it is important that seniors are provided with the assistance they need to navigate through it,” Ms Thompson told the Gannawarra Times.
“We want to include seniors and not exclude them from activities, and these types of sessions help to build confidence.”
The free webinars are thanks to a grant from the state government’s Digital Literacy for Seniors Program, which supports public libraries across the state to conduct hands-on digital training programs for Victorian seniors.
“Local libraries are a trusted source of information in the community – what better place for our senior citizens to learn great new skills for the digital age,” Minister for Local Government Melissa Horne said.
“This is about growing practical knowledge, building confidence and providing the opportunity for people to expand their social networks.”
