Foodshare putting meals on tables

Kerang Neighbourhood house has hosted Bendigo Foodshare chief executive officer, Michelle Murphy, who was visiting food partner organisations in Kerang, Boort, Inglewood and Bridgewater.

She wanted to see firsthand the great work their team is doing to support people doing it tough.

Ms Murphy said Bendigo Foodshare is proud to partner with the Kerang Community House and provide food relief to the local community

“It was a pleasure to meet the team to see firsthand the important role they are playing to support people in need.

“In the past year, Bendigo Foodshare has provided nearly 3,500 kgs of food relief to the Kerang Community House, which equates to roughly 7,000 meals.

“We provide food to more than 70 partner organisations across central Victoria and Kerang Community House is one of these wonderful organisations.

“Sadly there are more people than ever before who are struggling to put food on the table.”

She heard of many heartbreaking stories, including a farmer whose crop had failed, a family with one parent working, but seven children to feed, and a young woman with $5 to last her a fortnight and no food in the cupboard.

Operating largely on donations of food, money and volunteer time, Bendigo Foodshare provides food to more than 13,000 people in central Victoria every week.

People seeking food assistance can contact Kerang Community House directly for support. https://www.kerangnh.org.au/services.html
