Heart-warming response to winter appeal

NORTHERN District Community Health Kerang has had a strong response to its sixth annual winter appeal.

NDCH acts as a conduit for donations of items such as jumpers, blankets, winter clothes and any others that will be useful during winter.

Staff have again been overwhelmed with the generosity of the people of Kerang.

Specialist homelessness worker Anna Beamish said the donations did not only come from people cleaning out their cupboards.

“We have had bags of items dropped off where people have actually knitted garments especially for the appeal.

“Things like children’s beanies, jumpers and blankets.

“Every year people come in with things they have saved, they go through their wardrobes and clean out their cupboards and drop off anything that they are not using,” Ms Beamish said.

“The donations are bought to us here and we then make sure it gets to people that need it.

“Not so long ago I was in one of the op shops and they were telling me that this year there has been people in that they don’t normally see coming in for items.”

Staff take the donated items to Vinnies, where volunteers sort them and distribute them to op shops in the area, bolstering stocks of winter goods across the region.
