Leading Lion goes again

ROS Campbell has been elected for the second year as president of Kerang Lions Club.

Not intending to serve a second term, the reluctant president said that with the aging nature of the membership she thought it important to put her hand up again, after much urging from the other members of the club.

Despite the average age of membership being about 70, there was much enthusiasm in the group of 26 members.

As well as fundraising activities such as selling food out of their van at the community market, Lions Club members are very active with many projects they participate in throughout the year, including the Driver Reviver program.

Mrs Campbell said that she was a relatively newcomer to Lions, having only been a member for four years, and was still learning the ropes.

“We will soon be at the IGA sausage sizzle that will recommence now that community activities are able to recommence since COVID,” Mrs Campbell said.

“It is great to see the community is starting to get out and getting more involved with more people participating in community events.

“We need to get a few more people on deck with the club as we have an ageing group with some members in their 80s.

“It’s harder for the younger people as many have two jobs, both partners are usually working full-time and then there are all the sporting activities that parents need to run around for, so the time is just not available.

“The club is a great bunch of people that are always willing to help each other and we are able to have a bit of a giggle while we are doing our work as we all like to have a bit of a joke.

“We try to do our best to try and support our community.”
