Locals come together to enjoy flood recovery events

RESIDENTS across the Gannawarra Shire have made the most of flood recovery funded events held throughout July.

Between July 3 and 29, Gannawarra Shire council teamed up with local support providers and neighbourhood houses to hold six events.

“It was fantastic to see the community embrace these events, many of which resulted from residents’ suggestions collated earlier in the year,” said Gannawarra Shire Council chief executive Geoff Rollinson.

“Whether it was gathering to learn floral arranging, creating a linocut print or hearing from a popular author.

“These sessions brought our communities together to re-connect as we work to recover from the October-December 2022 floods.

“The creative arts programs throughout July were made possible with support from Kerang Neighbourhood House, Quambatook Community Resource Centre, Murrabit Playgroup and Gannawarra Library Service.

Two additional events took place with support from a partnership between Women’s Health Loddon Mallee and Northern District Community Health.

One of them was one of the month’s highlights, the Women in the Warra – Women, Workboots and Wellness luncheon, that was held on July 26.

The event brought women from across the Shire to the Tree Tops Scout Camp, where they listened to presentations and enjoyed a long-lunch within Gunbower Forest.

Mr Rollinson said participants of the free event gained insight into the inspiring women in their communities.

“Over 100 women from across the Gannawarra Shire attended this special event,” he said.

“With participants enjoying a lunch provided by Koondrook’s Long Paddock Food Store and inspiring presentations from local farmer and wellbeing coach, Katrina Myers and NDCH chief executive officer, Mandy Hutchinson.

“Katrina and Mandy are examples of the many local women inspiring their communities, with both women providing an insight into how to go from survive to thrive, and live the life they truly desire.”
