Lions Club seeks members

Cohuna Lions Club is looking for new members to help with community projects and have some fun.

“We have the wood yard that is going well,” president Allan Walkington said.

“This is a project that is both a community service and a small fundraiser.

“We buy wood in then we split it and on sell it.

“There are a lot of elderly people that rely on us for the wood.

“So we go around and deliver a meter or two, depending on want they need.

“It’s a bit of a fundraiser for the club but we don’t make much on it or it becomes out of reach for most people.

“Other things include cooking barbeques for various community events, cleaning up at the races after the Gunblower Cup and staffing the footy gates.”

He said out of the 31 members of the club only three are men, with the remainder women.

And if it wasn’t for the female members the club would have folded.

“They are really carrying the club at the moment,” he said.

In addition to the adults there are two junior groups called the Junior Lions and then the younger group known as the cubs.

When inducted into these groups the inductee is told that one of the criteria is that “you must have fun”.
