THE annual Barham Koondrook Agricultural Show has been a hit once again, as visitors and competitors returned to Barham for the event.
The show was finally able to celebrate its 60th year of existence, three years after the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted the show.
Beginning on Friday night, challengers entered their livestock, produce, arts and crafts, with all contending to be named as the best in their category.
Barham Koondrook Agricultural Show secretary Graeme Minnis said the show had gone “extremely well”.
“We had ideal weather on the Friday night which drew quite a large crowd along,” he said.
“It’s great to see so many people enjoy it and take part in things.
“Everyone seemed to enjoy all of the attractions that were on offer.
“We received a lot of great comments about the show, many people spoke to me about how much fun they had, Mr Minnis said.
He said that while the show committee had yet to count the attendance, he expected it to be about 600 people.
“That’s probably not a record crowd but it’s still a very good crowd and it’s close to what we usually see attend,” he said.
Just a few days after the show, Mr Minnis said he and the rest of the show committee were already debriefing about the event and looking ahead to next year.
“It does take a lot of work to hold this event,” he said.
“The bulk of our planning starts in March when we hold our general meeting, and we start to get really busy by June.
“Our problem is just needing more people on the committee to come along and help us do things.
“Our show committee is getting old; most of us are in our 70s.
“It’s the same on a lot of committees: too often it’s just the oldies out there doing everything.
“We just need some younger people to get involved. People in their 50s and so on, I think that would be ideal.”
