Cooking up meals of butter chicken is not usually on the menu for police at Kerang but yesterday morning that is what four members spent four hours doing.
Victoria Police are one of several organisations helping out the Kerang Neighbourhood House, taking part in the food assistance cooking program.
Senior Sergeant Brian Hansen said they have come on board with the new venture to provide meals for the needy in the community.
“This is our opportunity to get in and participate, and give a little bit of effort to a worthy cause,” Snr Sgt Hansen said.
“We’re preparing 75 meals of butter chicken that will go out to anyone who is in need within the community, providing a very nourishing meal.
“The neighbourhood house people will then label it, store it and distribute it later this week.”
Kerang Neighbourhood House president, Oscar Aertssen, said it was great to have the two organisations interact.
“We do have limited funding for this program and we would like to encourage donations so that we can keep this community service going,” Mr Aertssen said.
