Carols full of spirit

KERANG was filled with the sound of Christmas cheer on Sunday evening, as local schools, families and residents took to Atkinson Park for Kerang’s Community Carols.

Attendees brought along picnic rugs and baskets, watching on as the Kerang Combined Churches put on another of their dazzling performances.

Children were eager to get up on stage and belt out their favourite Christmas tunes.

There was also a range of fun activities to take part in as well, such as face-painting, craft activities and the Rotary Club’s miniature train, plus a selection of food vans and ice cream.

Kerang Combined Churches’ Tim Nitschke said the event had received flood-recovery funding to assist in bringing the event back to full strength.

“I think it was a successful evening,” he said.

“We had a really good number of attendees and the weather was good too.

“Things like carols are great for bringing the community together and it was certainly less stressful this year, compared to last year.

“I think that everyone appreciated the event. I know that the primary schools getting the chance to sing is always a highlight for the parents in our community.

“All in all, I think it was a very enjoyable night for the community.”

Mr Nitschke said it was great to see so many of Kerang’s residents and demographics join in the festivities.

“From my perspective, it’s great to see all the different church families combine together to be able to put on an event like this,” he said.

“There are a lot of different people and organisations who put in the hard work for the event to come together.

“The park, the play-equipment and the soundshell, it’s an ideal venue for bringing the community together.

“We had three different styles of band who were all singing the carols, so there was really something for everyone.”
