Quilters have it covered

THIS Easter, the colours of the district will be on display at the Kerang Memorial Hall courtesy of a local quilting group.

The Kerang Quilters Show is back this year with their 11th exhibition. The shows are held every three years.

Member of Kerang Quilters Janice Flood said the exhibition is an accumulation of the members’ works.

“They are really proud of what they’ve achieved,” she said.

“They do it to highlight their skills.

“Often skills are hidden in the community, so it’s a good chance for people to see what is out there.”

Ms Flood said to expect a variety of quilts in different styles and sizes as well as featured works from artist Sonya Else.

“Her work is very much related to the natural environment,” Ms Flood said.

“They’re very bright and extremely eye-catching.”

The exhibition will also feature a workshop, as well as a bazaar selling smaller items.

Local quilt shop Every Stitch Counts will also have a stall, along with Gail’s Patchwork Emporium, from Bendigo.

Ms Flood said the event is not only a way to showcase the quilting skills of locals, but also raises funds for the community.

“All of the profits will go back into the community,” Ms Flood said.

She also hopes that people will become interested in quilting with Kerang Quilters.

“We welcome new members with open arms,” she said.

“People are free to come along and try or just see what we do.”

The exhibition will run on Saturday, March 30 from 10am to 5pm, and Sunday, March 31, 10am to 4pm.

Admission is $5, and there will be catering and light refreshments available.
