Kerangs ninth annual Show and Shine a roaring success

MORE than 2000 people attended Kerang’s ninth annual Show and Shine under sunny skies last weekend at Alexandra Park.

Some 400 cars and more than 200 motorbikes from across the ages were on show with owners proudly discussing the finer points of the restoration process, engine specifications and all things automotive.

It was an opportunity for visitors to recall pleasant memories such as packing all the kids into the back of a station wagon, .

A unique feature of this show was the Evo Fest which is Australia’s only event to celebrate the famous Harley Davidson evolution engine that was developed in 1984 and is credited with saving the iconic brand.

One of the organisers, Mark Arians, said that the event was a huge success.

“The EVO Fest was phenomenal, that’s where most of the travellers came from,” Mr Arians said.

“We had them from Newcastle, we had crews come down from Canberra, Gippsland, Adelaide, Geelong and plenty from Bendigo, Ballarat and Mildura.

“They all camped up down the back, it was like a little village on Saturday night.

“I think we will double the number of bikes next year, they were all happy as Larry and said that they will all be back next year.

“The EVO Fest is the only event in the world of its type for Harley owners with the Evo engine.”

Mr Arians said that the committee that organised the event is a younger group and has some great innovative ideas.

One of the aims of the organisers has been to gather a lineup of every year Holden manufactured in Australia from 1948 through to 2017.

They were only short by seven years and will keep running the category until they achieve their goal.

Mr Arians added that the committee also had a lot of help with organisations from around the area such as the Kerang and District Historic car club, Swan Hill’s Mallee Cruisers car club and the Kerang cricket club.

All money raised from the event goes to helping all the organisations that utilise Alexandra Park, such as the Agricultural Society and the Turf Club, to pay for improvements.
