Grants to help community

COMMUNITY groups and organisations are set to share in more than $121,000 in Gannawarra Shire Council grants.

The council endorsed the list of recipients at the June ordinary meeting.

Council co-ordinator of community partnerships Katrina Thorne said following an assessment process, officers developed recommendations for $49,740.20 worth of projects supported through the community grants program; and $71,715.00 worth of projects be referred to the Gannawarra Community Resilience Committee for consideration as part of the flood recovery program.

Eight submissions were not recommended for either funding.

“The applications that are recommended to be referred to the Gannawarra Community Resilience Committee for consideration have been deemed to align with the Emergency Recovery Victoria Community Hubs funding grant guidelines, which support social recovery and resilience post the October-December 2022 flood event in Gannawarra,” Ms Thorne said.

“Each of the recommended applications demonstrated strong alignment to the essential criteria and had provided adequate supporting evidence for their budgets as part of the application process.”

Some of the successful projects included Christmas hampers for Legacy widows in the shire, metal art work and sculptures to place along the Leitchville walking track, upgrades to LED flood lighting at the Cohuna CFA running track, monthly soup kitchen at Kerang Neighbourhood House and floor restoration at Murrabit Public Hall.
