Bridge to bridge fundraiser strolls back

COHUNA’S famous Bridge to Bridge fundraising event is set to return next year, after local community members joined forces to bring it back to town.

The event has raised more than $170,000 for Cohuna District Hospital in its 30-year history, before it came close to an end last August.

But a new committee has brought the sporting event back to life, with a meeting last Wednesday deciding it will take place next year.

The Bridge to Bridge has transitioned from a swimming event to a day of running, walking or cycling due to insurance and organisation concerns.

Whether you’re a competitive runner or someone who’s looking to get active and challenge themselves, the Bridge to Bridge will have something for all ages.

A range of events are set to take place at a date to be confirmed, including a number of trail runs and walks through the Gunbower Forest.

For local and travelling cyclists, there will be the choice between 25km or 50km cycle races, while the junior cycle will be 6.5km long.

Junior runners will also have the opportunity to take on the “Kid’s K” race.

Those who are unable to make the event will also have the opportunity to join in with virtual options for each event, no matter where they are.

Between 2019 and 2023, the Bridge to Bridge raised more than $55,000 dollars for Cohuna District Hospital, to ensure local patients have the best care possible.

The 2023 event aims to raise funds to upgrade the outdoor area for the aged care residents at Cohuna District Hospital.
