Bursting into the new year

A HUGE crowd rang in the new year in Kerang, with a family-friendly celebration drawing people from as far as the Mornington Peninsula.

Kerang Progress Association has been running the annual December 31 event for the past 10 years, and said organising this year’s event had already started.

President Angela Teasdale estimated the crowd at more than 1000.

There was live music from Jeff Tynan & Band, a myriad of food vendors and children’s activities as families counted down until the midnight fireworks.

“All the feedback from people in attendance and the food vendors and entertainment vendors has been amazingly positive,” Ms Teasdale said.

“The food vendors all sold out and the band was very popular with the crowd and provided an awesome array of music.”

Food vendors were already locked in for this year, and the band had committed to returning after being well-received.

Fundraising activities would be scheduled during the year to help raise money for the event, with major expenses including the music and fireworks.

“To the dedicated members of the Kerang Progress Association, thank you for your ongoing efforts to continue working tirelessly to improve our event,” Ms Teasdale said.

Meanwhile, Cohuna also celebrated the end-of-year tradition with fireworks and activities at Garden Park.
