Cohuna town garage sale nears

THE Cohuna town garage sale will coincide with Australia Day and the Cohuna market – making Sunday, January 26, the perfect day to spend in Cohuna.

Running from 8am to 2pm, with more than 30 houses registered so far, items for sale will include furniture, vintage items, appliances and more.

The town garage sale is being organised by Cohuna Neighbourhood House, where maps of the registered houses are available for $5 until 11am at 29 Market Street, Cohuna.

Manager of Cohuna Neighbourhood House, Tanya Black, said the town had benefited from the garage sale over the last decade in which it has been run.

“In rural towns, there’s not much hard waste collection available so, its an opportunity for residents to clear out unwanted items from their house during the holiday period,” she said.

“The items will be going for cheap because they really want to or need to get rid of their items quickly, so this is also an opportunity to find a bargain.”

Ms Black said every year, people come to Cohuna from “far and wide” for the garage sale.

“We’ve had people come from Swan Hill, Deniliquin, Ballarat, Bendigo and Melbourne to name a few,” she said.

“The town becomes a hive of activity. There are cars driving down every street, and people stop at the main street for a drink or a meals and some people even stay overnight.

“So the garage sale helps local businesses and tourism in town as well.”

Ms Black encourages collectors and bargain hunters from all out of town to come to Cohuna for an opportunity to find a special or rare item.

“It’s definitely worth the drive,” she said. “I’d like to encourage neighbouring towns to come and see what treasures they can find this year.

“There are quite a lot of pensioners having a sale so there’s an opportunity to pick up something vintage.”
