Connecting Cohuna locals

COHUNA has been a hive of activity since welcoming in the new year, with Australia Day celebrations coinciding with the town’s garage sale.

Thirty-six households participated and tourists enjoying the town over the long weekend, commenting on what a great initiative it was.

The Gannawarra Toy Run was another success with Cohuna Neighbourhood House receiving a $5000 donation from the toy run proceeds which were used to provide Christmas hampers to community as well as stock the emergency pantry which is accessible all year.

The CNH has plenty more on the agenda this year and manager Tanya Black stressed that everyone was welcome to get involved.

“We run a large variety of programs and supports to assist people of all ages,” she said.

“We are inclusive and confidential and we operate like a family in many ways.

“We have a monthly newsletter that people can receive via email or they can pop into the house to pick up a hard copy.

“The newsletter is a great way to stay up to date with what is happening now and what is coming up in the future.”

CHN is located at 29 Market St, and is open five days per week.

Ms Black said it was a great resource to connect people with information.

“We run and auspice many programs here but even if you’re interested in something we don’t currently offer, we can connect you with the right people,” she said.

“For example, if you need assistance with digital technology or are interested in joining the Men’s Shed, we can connect you.

“We also auspice the art gallery, debutante ball and bridge to bridge event.

“On a weekly event, we have many groups that are a great way to catch up with others in the community such as the walking group, art and craft groups and the pram brigade for mums and dads.

“There’s also the community garden and a range of educational programs that we run throughout the year as well touring trips to Melbourne and other places around the region.

“I would recommend a regular pop-in just to find out what’s happening at the moment as it is regularly changing with new opportunities all the time.”
