BEAUTIFUL weather saw scores of families and children gather in the Cohuna Garden Park on Easter Thursday.
The Lions Club of Cohuna and the Leo club were dishing up delicious barbecue foods and freshly fried donuts.
A mix of local and visiting children enjoyed Lyndsey Quinlan’s DIY arts and crafts stall, painting and folding their own easter-egg baskets.
Acoustic musician Jimmy Johnson played a mix of classics and country music with a number of Beatles’ hits woven throughout.
A coffee cart had garden-goers glowing and well-caffeinated.
The day was made possible by Gannawarra Shire Flood Recovery Funding through the Gannawarra Community Resilience Committee.
One of the day’s organisers, Cohuna and District Progress Association member Tanya Harvey, was jubilant.
“It was an amazing day, a really good turnout,” she said.
“It was good for the Thursday because we captured all the people coming into town before they went out camping in the bush.
“We were unsure as to how many people would come. We didn’t know if we’d get two kids or 200 kids, because we’d never done it before.
“But in the end we were really surprised by how many people brought the kids down and supported it.”
Ms Harvey said the support from and for the Lions and Leo clubs was special.
“To have those groups there being supported by people coming down and grabbing some food and doing a bit of arts and crafts was amazing,” she said.
“The locals were saying it was amazing to have something for the kids to do during school holidays, and the tourists were also saying it was fantastic.
“They come into town and get the smell of hamburgers and sausages, and the fantastic live music.
“So it sort of dragged them all in just to come and giver the kids something to do, especially after some of them had travelled a couple of hours to get here.
“The Cohuna Progress Association do an amazing job, basically grabbing every opportunity they can to either support the locals or bring tourism into the area.”
