KERANG South Primary School students have more outdoor learning spaces without worrying about the blistering Mallee sun.
The school received $25,000 for new shade sails over an outdoor learning area, funding by the Department of Education and Training.
Principal Lyn Veall said the funding was part of being COVIDSafe and having more outdoor learning areas for all government schools across the state.
“This structure enables art and music lessons to be held outside when needed and also provides sun protection in summer for other lessons, especially during summer,” she said.
“Some students are involved in Chalk Club – a lunch time activity proposed by a Grade 3 student, Kahlia Marsh, for students who love art (an example of student voice). It also provides another avenue for play during lunch times.”
Kerang South also received another $25,000 for shade protection over their pirate ship cubby and redeveloped sandpit playground.
“We were very fortunate to receive both grants at the end of last year. With our extremely hot summers, these outdoor areas will provide plenty of choices for learning and play for our students,” Ms Veall said.
