FAMILY accessing three-year-old and four-year-old kindergarten will benefit from free programs during 2023.
Through the implementation of the State Government’s Best Start, Best Life initiative, Gannawarra Shire Council will provide free kindergarten for three-year-old and four-year-old children at its facilities.
“Kinder is an important first step in a child’s educational journey, as it enables the opportunity to use their imagination and practice important skills, such as problem solving, through play-based learning,” council chief executive Geoff Rollinson said.
Changes to council’s fees and charges to reflect these new arrangements were adopted at the December 2022 council meeting, which will save families whose children attend three-year-old and four-year-old programs at the Gannawarra Shire Children’s Centre $60 a week and up to $1400 per year for families whose children attend kindergarten programs at Cohuna and Koondrook.
“These new arrangements will benefits families now and into the future, especially with the increasing pressure on living expenses we are all experiencing,” Mr Rollinson said.
