Kerang South Primary Schools grade 5 and 6 students get active

KERANG South Primary School’s grade 5 and 6 students are learning all about healthy living in a fun and practical way.

The Mallee Sports Assembly Wycheproof in conjunction with Kerang South Primary School is conducting an active youth program.

The four week program is part of the VicHealth Future Healthy initiative, which aims to encourage young people to participate in regular physical activity and make positive life choices.

The program has been designed based on the information collected from a survey conducted by the Mallee Sports Assembly, identifying what the students want to do for their sessions and workshops.

Students at Kerang South Primary School have been participating in the program for the past two weeks, taking part in a range of activities.

One of these activities was a disability awareness program session.

Facilitated by project manager of the Mallee Sports Assembly Wycheproof Rhonda Allan, the program was designed to help able-bodied children understand how others with a disability manage and feel by being given “mock” disabilities.

The children have also been able to participate in a healthy eating session ran by Rachel Clarke of Northern District Community Health, a golf session at the Kerang Golf Club, and a river walk along the Loddon.
