Kerang nurse overcomes challenges

NURSING diploma graduate Pearl Dunn was named Koorie student of the year at the recent Victorian Training Awards.

The Victorian Training Awards recognise the achievements of students, teachers, training providers, and employers within the Victorian TAFE and training sector.

Ms Dunn, who studied at the Swan Hill campus, was one of three finalists in her category, and was ultimately named winner at the gala event on August 18.

SuniTAFE said she was a deserving winner, being a consistent hard worker throughout her studies, demonstrating an eagerness to learn in the classroom, while remaining professional and respectful at all times during her work placements.

Ms Dunn had completed her diploma to a high standard, despite being pulled away from her studies at times due to family hardships.

SuniTAFE chief executive officer Brett Millington attended the awards.

“It’s great that Pearl has been recognised, not just for her commitment, but her persistence and desire to overcome challenges and deliver at a high level,” he said.

“This award is due recognition of that and we are thrilled for her and her family that were there on the night to celebrate with her.”

Since graduating, Ms Dunn has gone on to work at Kerang District Health and continues to build her nursing career.

Ms Dunn was unavailable for comment.
