Primary students encouraged to walk this way

Schools in Gannawarra Shire took part in the National Walk Safely to School Day (WSTSD), an annual event that marked its 25th year this year.

Supported at all levels of government, schools throughout the region were getting into swing of the event.

The day encourages all primary school children to walk safely to school as part of a combined road safety, health, public transport and environment promotion.

One of the aims of the day is to encourage parents and carers to walk to school with primary-school-age children to reinforce safe pedestrian behaviour as well as promote the health benefits of walking as they help to create regular walking habits at an early age.
