A TEACHER and a student from SuniTAFE have been announced as finalists in this year’s Victorian Training Awards.
The awards aim to recognise the hard work and accomplishments of individuals and organisations across the state TAFE sector.
SuniTAFE automotive electrical and heavy automotive teacher Will Sharpe is a contender for Teacher/Trainer of the Year.
An advocate for vocational training, Mr Sharpe was named SuniTAFE’s Teacher of the 2023 academic year.
Diploma of Nursing graduate Emily Behrendt has been nominated for Koorie Student of the Year.
Miss Behrendt graduated from the Swan Hill campus earlier this year and has been using her knowledge to give back to her local community of Kerang.
Former SuniTAFE student Pearl Dunn, a colleague of Miss Behrendt, was named Victoria’s Koorie Student of the Year in 2023.
“We are very proud that Mr Sharpe and Miss Behrendt have progressed to the final stage of these awards,” SuniTAFE chief executive officer Brett Millington said.
“It is fantastic to see our staff and students recognised as finalists in these prestigious awards.
“Their success is indicative of the hard work of all our teams and the perseverance of students to not only succeed but excel.”
The finalists will attend the Victorian Training Awards gala in Melbourne on August 30, where the award winners will be announced.
