A SOLAR farm 8.5km south-east of Bridgewater will be among six new solar developments across Victoria that will help meet the state’s target of 100 per cent renewable electricity across government operations by 2025.
Developed by Sungrow Renewable Energy, the Derby Solar Project will deliver 95MW of new renewable capacity and 100 MW hour battery energy storage system.
The Victorian Government said the six projects combined were expected to support 920 direct jobs, create around 290 positions for apprentices, trainees and cadets, and deliver $1.48 billion in investment.
These projects were also required to make sure more of the benefits stay in local communities by using local products and suppliers.
The six successful projects from Victoria’s second renewable auction will generate almost 1460 gigawatt-hours of new renewable energy per year, the equivalent of powering 300,000 homes.
Four successful battery projects, including the Derby development, will double the state’s current storage with 365MW and 600MWh of dispatchable energy for the grid – equal to the capacity of all the big batteries installed in Victoria today.
Minister for Energy Lily D’Ambrosio said the state’s renewable projects were powering every government building with cheap, clean energy – boosting investment in the state by more than a billion dollars and creating hundreds of jobs.
“Victoria is the nation’s clean energy powerhouse – cutting emissions by more than any other state, tripling the amount of renewable energy and creating thousands of jobs,” Ms D’Ambrosio said.
